Welcome to the PGSD College & Career Technical Institute.

 

As a District of Innovation, the Pascagoula Gautier School District goes beyond the typical high school experience. We encourage students to start thinking about careers as early as elementary school. Through our Bridge Academies PGSD students begin taking courses in middle school that introduce the 16 National Career Pathways. In these courses students take a career interest inventory that helps them determine what pathway best suits them.  Next, all ninth grade students take a course called freshman seminar which includes a general tour of the CCTI in the fall semester.  Shortly after this tour,  students are encouraged to choose an academy that reflects their interests.  In the spring semester students will take a focused tour allowing them to spend more time in the academy programs that best fit their chosen pathway.

As the CTE counselor at the CCTI, I am tasked with guiding students in the selection of a CTE course that is closely related to their chosen career path. Completing these courses will ultimately provide an opportunity for students to go to work or college with a unique advantage over other students.  This advantage allows them to compete, succeed or advance at a higher rate because of specialized training, certifications, and special scholarships not available on the PHS or GHS campuses. Most of our CTE programs have an internship through the Bridge Academies where the students experience first hand what is required of them for specific jobs, career opportunities, and advancement and/or degree required. By allowing students to explore pathways while still in high school, if they change their mind, they can do so when the cost is minimal to none. I am present for the duration of their high school experience for guidance and help, as well as throughout their journey to college or career.
